This homemade whipped tallow balm is nourishing and hydrating to the skin. It only requires 3 simple ingredients, and is super easy to make!
What Is Beef Tallow?
Beef tallow is rendered beef fat, traditionally sourced from the fat surrounding a cow’s organs. Beef tallow is rich in healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals that nourish and hydrate the skin, while protecting the natural skin barrier.
Tallow has been used for skincare for thousands of years— dating back to ancient times. It was a common ingredient used in beauty rituals and healing preparations across various cultures— including the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and Native American tribes.
Tallow skin care has seen a rise in popularity in modern times, and there’s a good reason for it! Tallow is a natural source of vitamins and fatty acids that easily absorb into the skin. Using tallow has been shown to reduce inflammation, promote collagen production, and protect the skin from damage.
But tallow skin care prices today can be super expensive.. which is why I love to make whipped tallow balm from scratch. It’s super easy to make, and all you need is 3 simple ingredients.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
It nourishes and hydrates the skin. Beef tallow is a traditional, nutrient-rich fat source that has been used for skincare since ancient times. It closely mimics the oils naturally produced by human skin— locking in moisture while still feeling lightweight and breathable.
No chemicals needed to see results. Skincare today is filled with lab-made chemicals that can damage the natural skin barrier. Tallow on the other hand, is all-natural, protects the skin barrier, and helps improve skin texture and tone, while reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
Making homemade whipped tallow balm is way cheaper than buying it online. Tallow skincare is crazy expensive these days for a small 4 ounce jar. By making it at home, you get quadruple the amount of whipped tallow for around the same price!
It’s so easy to make! All you need is 3 simple ingredients to make this homemade whipped tallow balm— beef tallow, jojoba oil, and essential oils, that’s it! Simply melt the tallow, add the jojoba oil, whip it up, and add the essential oils (if using any). Transfer the tallow balm to jars, and voilà— you have homemade whipped tallow balm.
Whipped Tallow Balm Ingredients
- Beef Tallow- When choosing a beef tallow, I always recommend getting grass-fed. Grass-fed beef tallow is more rich in vitamins and nutrients compared to tallow derived from conventionally raised, grain-fed cattle. This is due to the different lifestyles and diets of grass-fed, pasture-raised animals which enhance their nutrient profile.
- Jojoba Oil- Jojoba oil is super nourishing for the skin. It’s loaded in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that hydrate the skin and reduce inflammation. However, you can substitute with your preferred oil of choice— like avocado oil, which helps to smooth and soften the skin. You can also use half jojoba oil and half avocado oil for extra nutrients and a soft finish.
- Essential Oils- Essential oils add a delicious scent to this whipped tallow balm recipe. Make sure to use skincare-friendly essential oils— like lavender, frankincense, orange, or tea tree. I like to combine all four essential oils, and it smells absolutely delicious!
