Learn how to make maple cream with my simple, one-ingredient recipe! If you have never tried maple cream before, you are in for a special treat. It’s buttery, creamy, and delicious, and is made from just one ingredient– maple syrup!
This recipe is super easy to make, and will quickly become one of your favorite sweet treats. It’s thick and spreadable, making it perfect for dolloping on toast, drizzling on pancakes and waffles, using as an icing or filling for baked goods, or eating by the spoonful!
What Is Maple Cream?
Maple cream is simply maple syrup that is heated to 235°F, then cooled to 100°F, then whipped– until a thick and opaque cream is formed.
One of the best ways to describe maple cream is a spreadable maple syrup. The difference in consistency is due to crystallization that occurs during the heating and cooling process. Which is why getting the temperature right is super important for this recipe.

What You’ll Need
Candy Thermometer– A candy thermometer is essential when it comes to making maple cream. If you heat the syrup too much, or don’t allow it to cool properly, you won’t achieve the silky, creamy texture that makes this recipe so delicious and wonderful.
Saucepan– You’ll be using a medium sized saucepan to heat, cool, and whip the maple cream in.
Ice Bath– An ice bath is used to cool the syrup down after heating. To make an ice bath, you can fill a large container or your kitchen sink with ice and cold water.
Electric Mixer– Using an electric mixer makes this recipe simple and easy. However, you can use a wooden spoon to stir the maple cream until desired texture is achieved. If you’re using a wooden spoon, it will likely take longer, and little extra effort!
Ingredients
Maple Syrup– Maple syrup is the only ingredient you need to make maple cream! Maple syrup is one of my favorite sugars, since it’s unrefined, loaded with minerals and antioxidants, and tastes absolutely delicious! When choosing a syrup for this recipe, make sure it is 100 percent pure with no additives.
How to Make Maple Cream
1. Pour the maple syrup into a saucepan and place it over medium heat. Attach a candy thermometer to the saucepan and heat the syrup to 235°F. Make sure not to stir the syrup as it heats!
2. Once the syrup reaches 235°F, remove the pan from the heat and carefully place it in an ice bath to cool.
3. Once the syrup reaches 100°F, remove it from the ice bath and start beating it with an electric mixer on low. Continue beating until the syrup thickens and becomes creamy and opaque. This may take around 10-20 minutes.
4. Transfer the maple cream into a jar or container and store in the fridge for up to a month. The maple cream will thicken more as it cools.

How to Serve
Maple cream is a versatile spread that can be used in many different ways. I love to spread it on toast, add to peanut butter sandwiches, drizzle onto pancakes or waffles, use as a filling or icing for baked goods like cakes, pastries, and cookies, or eat by the spoonful! You can also use it to make dressings or sauces as a compliment to savory dishes. The potential uses are endless!
