Make rotisserie chicken at home with my simple and delicious recipe! My homemade rotisserie chicken comes out tender and flavorful with a tasty, crispy skin. Ditch the store-bought rotisserie chicken today and learn how to make your own at home!

Why Make Rotisserie Chicken at Home?

  • It’s healthier. By making rotisserie chicken at home, you get to be in control over the ingredients. I always recommend using organic, pasture-raised chicken to ensure you’re getting the highest-quality meat with no added hormones or antibiotics. You also can opt for healthier fats like butter or avocado oil to coat the chicken, as opposed to unhealthy vegetable or canola oil that store-bought versions often use.
  • Avoid microplastics and harmful chemicals. Store-bought rotisserie chicken is cooked, packaged in plastic, and placed under a heater to stay warm. When the plastic container sits under a heat lamp all day long, it begins to release harmful chemicals and microplastics into the food, which then end up in your body!
  • It’s super affordable. Making a rotisserie chicken is an affordable way to feed a family, or to prepare meat for the week ahead. Buying a whole chicken from the grocery store instead of buying cuts of meat like chicken breasts or thighs, gives you way more bang for your buck!
  • It’s easy to make. Making rotisserie chicken at home is incredibly easy to make. All you need is some spices, butter or oil, and chicken! That’s it. You can keep this recipe super simple, or enrich it with extra herbs and bone broth. You can also swap the seasonings for any flavors that you’re craving— making it a versatile recipe that is the perfect addition to any home-cooked meal.
  • It’s flavorful, tender, and delicious. This homemade rotisserie chicken comes out perfect every time, with tender and juicy meat that is packed with flavor, and a crispy, delicious skin. You can’t go wrong with this easy and tasty recipe.

Why Use a Bundt Pan to Make Homemade Rotisserie Chicken?

Using a bundt pan is my favorite homemade rotisserie chicken hack! By elevating the chicken with the bundt pan, you ensure that the chicken is cooked evenly, creating juicy cuts of meat all around. It also exposes the skin to more heat, creating that crispy skin that we all know and love. Plus, the bundt pan catches the flavorful drippings from the chicken, which can be used as a base for gravy.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken– For this recipe, I recommend using a 3-4 pound whole chicken. Opt for organic, pasture-raised chicken to ensure the highest quality meat with no added hormones or antibiotics.
  • Butter or oil- Butter or oil is used to coat the chicken and contribute to a crispy skin. I love to use butter for the rich flavor and nourishing saturated fats. If opting for oil, I recommend avocado oil, as it’s a healthy fat that has a high smoke point.
  • Seasoning- I use a mixture of salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme for this rotisserie chicken recipe. However, you can use any spice combination you’d like!
  • Water or bone broth- Adding liquid to the bundt pan prevents the chicken from drying out, and ensures a tender, juicy rotisserie chicken. You can keep it simple and use water, and use bone broth. The bundt pan will collect the drippings, so I love to use bone broth and turn it into a flavorful gravy!
  • Fresh herbs (optional)– For added flavor, stuff your chicken with fresh herbs. I love to use thyme, sage, and rosemary.

How to Make Homemade Rotisserie Chicken

1. Preheat your oven to 300°F. This lower temperature will allow the chicken to cook slowly and come out juicy and tender.

2. Rinse the chicken under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels. Remove any giblets from the cavity if present. Stuff with fresh herbs (optional).

3. In a small bowl, mix together salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried thyme.

4. Rub the melted butter all over the chicken, followed by the seasoning mixture. You can also put some under the skin for extra flavor.

5. Cut a circle of parchment paper to fit over the center tube of the bundt pan if it has a whole. This will help catch drippings and make cleanup easier. Place the pan on a baking sheet to provide stability for the chicken and to catch juices.

6. Place the chicken upright over the center tube of the bundt pan and pour in the water or broth at the bottom of the bundt pan.

7. Place in the preheated oven and roast the chicken for 3 to 4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the meat is tender and pulling away from the bones.

8. Check the chicken occasionally. If the skin starts to darken too much, you can loosely cover it with parchment paper.

9. Once cooked, carefully remove the pan from the oven. Carve the chicken and serve it with your favorite sides!
