Who doesn’t want to bite into a soft, chewy piece of bread with the perfect crust, slathered in a savory, herbaceous oil? I know I do! This bread dipping herb oil is perfectly herby, garlicky, a little spicy, a little salty, and 100 percent delicious!

How to Make Bread Dipping Herb Oil
Step 1:
First, we’ll build the seasoning blend. Then, when you’re ready to serve the herb oil, you’ll add in the less shelf-stable ingredients. This way, you can pull out your seasoning blend and make fresh herb oil in a pinch, anytime, anyday!
To make your herb oil seasoning blend, grab a mason jar or sealable container and combine:
- 6 tbsp dried oregano
- 6 tbsp dried basil
- 2 tbsp dried thyme
- 2 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes optional
- 2 tbsp black pepper freshly cracked
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 4 tsp sea salt
Store the seasoning blend in the pantry for up to 6 months, or use right away.

Step 2:
To make your dipping oil, measure out 2 tsp of the seasoning blend into a serving bowl or plate. To the seasoning, add:
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 1 clove fresh garlic minced
- ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese optional
Give it a stir to combine.

Step 3:
Toast and dip your bread into the savory oil, and enjoy!

Why You Should Make Homemade Bread Dipping Oil
When you make your own herb oil from home, you get to control which ingredients you include. You can customize this recipe based on your own preferences, and you can be sure to use high-quality ingredients– like extra virgin olive oil.
Store-bought dipping oils often contain low quality oils, or oil blends. For example, many dipping oils for sale contain an olive oil and canola oil blend. Olive oil has a delicious and robust flavor, and is loaded with antioxidants, whereas canola and other vegetable oils are highly processed and inflammatory.
How to Store
Store the seasoning blend in an airtight container or jar in the pantry for up to 6 months. When ready to serve, add in the olive oil, fresh garlic, and parmesan cheese. If you have leftover herb oil, simply store it in the fridge in an airtight container or jar for up to a week.
