Ingredients

Pie Filling Ingredients:

  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples
  • 1/2 cup pure cane sugar, coconut sugar, honey or maple
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 pie crust (I have a delicious one in my Staples Made Simple recipe book)

Streusel Topping Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup pure cane sugar, coconut sugar, or maple sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cut into small cubes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. Prepare a pie crust, like my favorite buttermilk pie crust in my guide, or a recipe you like.
  3. After making the crust, be sure to refrigerate for 30 minutes before assembling pie.
  4. In a bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar of choice, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice for the filling.
  5. In another bowl, mix flour and sugar for the streusel topping. Add cold cubed butter and cut into crumbs.
  6. Roll out the chilled dough and transfer to the pie dish.
  7. Pour apple filling into the crust and sprinkle streusel topping over it.
  8. Place the pie dish on a baking sheet and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and apples are tender.
  9. Let the pie cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy!
